Prop shaft?
Prop shaft?
Hi all this is my first time on this site. I am thinking of buying an RX4 from a local dealer (2001 2.0 petrol) but would like some help on what to look for before handing over the cash. I had a look under the car at the prop shaft and it looked brand new. What would cause the need a replacement prop shaft on the RX4? Any ideas welcome. Otherwise the car looks in great shape.
Its great to find a site like this even if I can not speak German!
Well done
Dave

Hi and welcome Dave,
till today i heard nothing about a problem about the prop shaft.
Maybe it was damaged at a offroad trip ... i guess ...
Normaly there are no other reasons.
I think there are other things you have to look for.
clutch
steering
engine mount
exhaust
and some other things you should check at a test drive.
But maybe there are some other guys here with more ideas
Nice homepage with great pictures you have! Were you come from?
Greetings,
Alex
PS: i moved your message.... the diary wasn't a good place
PPS: hopefully me english is comprehensible

By the way I am glad you like my web site and i am from washington in the north east of England, which is near the citys of Sunderland and Newcastle

Thank you Dave :-)
That's easy. I cross my fingers for your interview.
I found a site about the Kangoo 4x4 Trekka
so i think that there are enough possibilities to drive off road at
Great Britain. It's one of my dreams to drive through England and Scotland.
The father of my wife was born at the island too :-) He came from Nottingham. It's the photography your work? The photos are very professional.
I'm always looking for a nice object too, but the free time isn't enough
for all that hobbies
OK... now back to the cars
Maybe you can tell me some of your secrets about the photography by PM
or mail...
Have a nice day,
Alex

Hi Alex I had a word with the last owner about the RX4 and he said when he first got the car he noticed a rumbling noise comming from the front left of the car
. He took the car back and they fixed something to do with the anti roll bar and he had no other problems with the rx4
. I hope things will be ok for me. He also said it had never been off road before
. It seems that his wife and kids liked the RX4 more than he did which is why he got it
. But you know how it is if you do not feel right with your car. Nothing will make it feel right for you
My photography is just for fun at the moment but I would like to make some cash from it some day. My tip for you is always have your camera with you as you never know what you will come across 8O
By the way, I do not seem to get an email when the "notify me when a reply is posted" box is ticked. Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
sounds good. Was he the only one who owned the RX4 before?
My wife like the RX4 more than other 4x4 cars too.
She always said that the other 4x4 are to square ...
My camera is so big to have it with my
But we will get a little Ixus
or something like that again.
I'll check the problem with the "notify me...".
EDIT:
The "notify me" function is working now!
I tested it and i got the emails.
There was a little config problem....

Hi Alex
Just to let you know that I now have the Rx4 and I am very happy with it
.
Its a very nice car to drive, quiet, and comfortable. I'm not planning to drive it up any mountains at the moment, but may find a few old farm tracks to get a feel of it
One thing that I have noticed is that the Idle speed seems to be fluctuating slightly. It is not very much, maybe drops a few revs every 30 seconds or so, then it settles back. Have you had any experience with this

Hi Dave,
congratulation! Now you are a full member
About the "problem" with the idle speed:
Yes, there are some others with this problem.
They told, that this happens only with a cold engine or at cold weather and
raininess. But another one wrote me this by mail:
It could be a problem with the jockey pulley at the v-belt. The
belt slips for a short moment. I think, it's better to let the seller check
this option.
Otherwise i wish you fun and always grip on every tour with your RX4

Hi Dave,
it is not the timing belt, the poly-v is the other belt.(Alternator, Power steering, etc.) If this belt fails, it is not a big Problem, if the timing belt breacks then the engine is "about" gone...)
Please speak with your dealer, he may help you...some are nice others not.
How many miles does your car have?
